Overview
The children will pretend to make yummy yogurt as they recognize and name the uppercase letter Y and lowercase letter y.

Literacy Activities
Yummy Y Yogurt

  • Write the uppercase letter Y and the lowercase letter y on a whiteboard, name the letters, and have the children say the letter name as they write the Y and y in the air with their fingers.
  • Have the children sit in a circle with a container labeled "Yummy Y Yogurt" in the center.
  • Have the children circle the letter Y in each word of the "Yummy Y Yogurt" sign on the container.
  • Teach the children the Yummy Y Yogurt song to the tune of "Frere Jacques."
  • Give the children a letter card and have them name the letter.
  • Allow the children to place the letter cards in the container while they sing the Yummy Y Yogurt song.
  • Give each child a small bowl of real yellow yogurt to eat (optional) or let the children pretend to eat the yummy Y yogurt they created.
