State and Model the Objective 
Tell the children that they will share a bear and recognize and produce words that rhyme with share, such as bear, glare, tear, hair, and chair. 

Literacy Activities
Share the Bear game

• Have the children sit in a circle and sing the Share the Bear song (found below) to the tune of "Skip to My Lou" as the bear is passed around the circle.
• Point out the words in the song that rhyme (e.g., share, bear, care) and have the children sing those words louder than any other words in the song.
• When the song ends, have the child holding the bear choose someone to share the bear with.
• When the child has chosen someone to share the bear with, have the other children say, "Take care of the bear so it does not tear."
• Repeat the activity to give several children the opportunity to share the bear. 

Game variation

• Sing the song again, and have the children jump in the air every time they hear the rhyming words (e.g., share, bear, care).

More Practice
Produce words that rhyme with share

• Remind the children of the words they played with (e.g., share, bear, care, tear).
• Have the children think of things that rhyme with share that they could share with the bear (support as needed).

Recognize rhyming words 

• Have the children repeat a set of two words (e.g., share, bear).
• Ask the children to show you a thumbs up if the words rhyme and a thumbs down if the words do not rhyme.
• Repeat with other sets of words (e.g., care, tear; wear, there; fair, cat; flair, mare; hair, dare; rare, hot; stare, glare).
