- Wiggle and Waggle chant*
- Music (optional)

State the Objective
Tell the children that they will wiggle and waggle as they associate the letter W with the /w/ sound.
Literacy Activities
Write Ws
- Write the letter W and state that it makes the /w/ sound.
- Have the children say /w/ as they write W in the air with their fingers.
- Have the children write W on small pieces of paper.
- Let the children wiggle, waggle, wave, and wag their Ws.
- As the children perform W actions, ask them to listen for the /w/ sound.
Wiggle and waggle
- Teach the children actions to go with these words:
- Wiggle: shake your hips
- Waggle: move back and forth
- Whirl: spin aroun
- Wait: hold still
- Read the Wiggle and Waggle chant (see below), having the children echo back.
- Turn on music or hum, and have the children perform the actions in the chant.
Identify the letter W
- Show the children the text of the Wiggle and Waggle chant.
- Have the children point to each W in the text.
- Read the text and have the children write W in the air when they hear /w/.
- Let the children do the Wiggle and Waggle dance again with their paper W.
