Can I send a photocopy of my GRE scores? I can't afford to have scores sent by ETS, and I can certify that my student copy is accurate. Will that fill the requirement?
No. We must receive official test scores from ETS. Photocopies and student copies of test scores are unofficial and may keep your application from being considered.
Do I have to take the GRE?
Yes. Education PhD candidates are required to take the general GRE test—not the subject-specific GRE tests.
How do I obtain a copy of my GRE test scores?
Check the ETS Web site or call 1-800-GRE-CALL for information on obtaining copies of test scores.
How do I take the GRE?
The computer test is generally offered Monday–Saturday at Thomas Prometric Test Centers. You may view available dates and times as well as register for the test online at www.gre.org. The paper test is offered three times a year. Contact ETS to obtain an information booklet or to register. The subject tests are usually offered three times a year (November, December, and April) on paper only.
How long does BYU keep GRE scores?
ETS, the company that administers the GRE, keeps scores for five years only. Thus BYU purges its system after five years as well. If your scores will be more than five years old when the semester for which you are applying begins, you will need to retake the GRE.
I don't like the score I got on the GRE. Can I take it again?
Yes. If you take the test by computer, you may take it once a month up to five times a year. If you take the paper test, you may retake it the next time it is offered.
I had my scores sent to BYU when I applied last year. Do you still have my scores on file?
We retain all Education PhD student scores in our system for five years from the time you took the test, so you do not need to have ETS re-send your scores.
Does BYU require a minimum GRE score?
No. You may view the current Education PhD student profile that includes the mean test scores from the admitted students over the last two years.
When should I take the GRE?
You should take the test at least six to eight weeks before the February 1st deadline to ensure the scores arrive on time.
